An Antique Sapphire, Seed Pearl, Enamel and Gold Brooch, circa 1890

The petite scalloped form centering an oval sapphire weighing approximately 4.80 carats, amid a conforming surround decorated with black and white enamelling, to a similarly-enamelled scrolling garland accented by seed pearls and blue-green enamelled leaves, in 18k and 14k gold

Brooch measuring 25 x 23 mm
Sapphire of a light tone of very slightly violetish blue colour, lightly included, good cut. It is Dupuis' opinion that there is no indication of heat treatment. It is Dupuis' opinion that features found in the sapphire are consistent with features found in sapphires known to have originated in Sri Lanka
Pearls, of a strong cream colour, bright lustre, mixed pink and green overtones, good matching.
Good overall condition, with white, black dot and blue-green enamel losses
