An Antique Soup Plate from the Ronald Reagan White House

A most attractive relic from the Family Residence in the Ronald Reagan White House, being a single, gilt-embellished soup plate of Chinese origin, ca. 1780-1795. This beautiful, unmarked soup plate is crafted from fine white porcelain and offers a copious display of hand-painted flowers, bows and a central embellished monogram, all accented with gilt. The fluted edges enjoy their own measure of gilt as well, giving the plate truly sumptuous style. It measures 9 in. diameter and stands 1.75 in. tall, and bears an inventory label from Christies on the bottom.
This plate was a gift of Mr. and Mrs. Armand Deutsch, who were close friends of the Reagans. Reagan appointed Deutsch – a film director remembered for his film "The Magnificent Yankee," a biopic of Oliver Wendell Holmes – to the Presidential Task Force on the Arts and Humanities in 1981.
This wonderful memento bears just the slightest indications of wear to gilt edges, and one area of roughness/toning on the back, but is otherwise in near fine condition. As a lover of the arts, Reagan no doubt cherished this lovely example of antique porcelain!
