[ translate ]

An Art Deco ash and walnut dressing table, 1931, designed by Charles Richter and manufactured by Bath Artcraft Ltd. associated with Bath Cabinet Makers Ltd., the base with a pair of quarter-circular banks of drawers, each enclosing three drawers with chromed steel handles, surmounted by an illuminated triptych mirror, mounted on a chromed steel frame, 130cm wide 40cm deep 150cm high, together with an associated chromed steel stool, upholstered in white leather (2) Further accompanied by correspondence between Bath Artcraft Ltd., Bath Cabinet Makers Ltd., and Col. A S Bates, along with an early product sketch (presumably executed by Richter, who is mentioned in the correspondence as being the designer of the bedroom suite). A departure from the initial drawing is the angle at which the handles of the drawers are set and the removal of the chrome railing to the edges of the tops. Provenance: Commissioned in 1931 by Col. Arthur Sydney Bates of Manydown Park near Basingstoke. Bates was the last lord of the manor, appointed in 1924 until his death in 1958. The Hampshire archives hold records of home movies made by the family from this period, illustrating the events and lives of a country estate in the interwar period. Following the Colonel's death in 1958, no new lord of the manor was appointed, and the contents of the house were sold at auction in 1962 before the house was demolished in 1965.
