Additional comments added on 3/29/23: the bottom is wood with a thin layer of fabric not canvas. There is a hole in the fabric inside the trunk but it does not go through the wood on the bottom

Additional comments added on 3/22/23: The wood slats were for the bottom when transported on steamer. The trunk does have a bottom. The slats were used to protect the edges of the trunk diving transport

Water stains, staining and wear to interior and exterior, tears/some loss in canvas; original wood slats in poor condition; with residual odor
