An East Asian bronze vase

[ translate ]

An East Asian bronze vase
Circa 1920
With impressed maker's mark to base reading perhaps: Shanxian chi zhi/Yamagata Tamotsu Sei
The baluster-form vase depicting an armed soldier in winter attire staring at a temple complex in the distance, the incised inscription possibly referring in propagandistic terms to the 25th anniversary of the forcible Japanese annexation of Taiwan in 1895
9.5" H x 5" Dia.
Condition Report: Overall good condition with scattered scuffs, light scratches, and oxidation commensurate with age. One pronounced, lighter-colored scuff on the front left, approximately 0.75" in length. As well, there is some rubbed wear to the black patination on the soldier's helmet. Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
