An Edwardian silver mounted table cigar box.

An Edwardian silver mounted table cigar box, of rectangular wooden form with chamfered edges, the top with applied 'Cigars' motif and strapwork decoration, further strapwork brackets to the corners, the front two with personal inscriptions, the hinged clasp opening to reveal a sprung dual compartment and three later added compartments. Hallmarked John Round & Son Ltd (Joseph Ridge), Sheffield 1904. Width measuring 9 7/8 inches (25.3 cm). In good overall condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The 'Cigars' motif is not hallmarked, it appears this has been later replaced as there is impressions from another piece to the wood beneath and it does not align with some visible fixture holes. The front brackets are engraved 'Herbert Whitley' and '2nd Jan 1909'. The sprung platform lifts up when the box is open. The front interior sections appears to have a later added tray with three compartments. Hallmarks clear and legible, partial hallmarks to the strapwork.
