An Edwardian sterling silver historismus cup, London 1903 by John Heming In the 17th century German manner, the demi egg-shaped body headed by a mythical beast’s head with embossed decoration of wings and a scaly tail. The back end of the bowl with an embossed grotesque mask between bat wings, with an open work mouth. The pedestal stem upon a domed circular foot with embossed decoration of flower heads and acanthus leaves. The central stem of vase form with four applied sections of flourished double C scrolls. The bowl with gilt interior. Fully marked to side. Height – 20.5 cm / 8.1 inches Weight – 459 grams / 14.76 ozt
