An Egyptian limestone relief depicting standing Bes, Ptolemaic, c. 332 - 30 BC, frontally carved with the protective deity standing facing, with leonine features and wearing a feathered headdress, left hand holding a sword aloft, right clutching a struggling serpent. 9 1/2 x 5 3/4 x 1 5/8 in (24.2 x 14.6 x 4.2 cm). An attractive piece with traces of original pigment. Ex collection of a Manhattan, New York professor, acquired in the 1970's.
