An Egyptian wooden animal sarcophagus
An Egyptian wooden animal sarcophagus, Ptolemaic Period, c. 332 - 30 BC, for perhaps a serpent, fashioned in the form of a shrine with long, sliding panel. The entire piece is carved from a single piece of cedar with interior grooves to fit the cover or panel. 8 1/2 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/2 in (21.6 x 4.2 x 3.8 cm). Light weathering to bottom. An interesting piece! Ex Orange County private collection.
