MARCION, (crown over three fleur-de-lis) Marks to marble top: No. 65 14-1/8 x 19-5/8 x 9-1/2 inches (36 x 50 x 24 cm) Property from the Collection of John Robert Clark PROVENANCE: Stair Galleries, Hudson, New York, English, Continental & American, October 25, 2014, lot 655. The cabinet with one frieze drawer above and three drawers below behind matched mahogany doors, gilt bronze mounts to two columns and turned bud feet with original grey marble top, twice stamped with the marque-au-feau P. MARCION for Pierre-Benoit Macion, the eminent ebeniste of the late 18th and early 19th century who made furniture for Versailles, Fontainebleau and the Chateau de Maimaison for Napoleon, twice stamped with the marqu-au-feau of the Garde Meuble, the royal stamp of XVIII with the Bourbon lilies, the original marble is numbered and dated with an inventory label of the Chateau de Meudon, a royal residence of the Boubons through Louis-Philippe. Condition Report: Splintering with loss to upper right front corner, loose mount upper front left side, checking to both doors with deep marring, splintering to knees at column bases, large flake to left rear corner of marble with other smaller flakes to rear edge.
