Provenance:
Acquired for the William and Ada Wrigley residence, Chicago, circa 1927
Condition Report: The paneled room was disassembled in the early 1990s when the current homeowner stored the paneling. The panel sections are not labeled consistently and there is no diagram to help with re-assembly. The paneling has been stored at a climate-controlled storage warehouse since the early 1990s. Low-resolution photos showing views of the room and paneling prior to removal are available upon request. Overall sturdy, well-conserved condition, but needing cleaning. Some panels have 19th/early 20th century repairs or later boards added to backs for stability. Except where condition issues are noted below, there are negligible age cracks, chips, worm holes, and some sections loosened from their framing due to shrinkage throughout. Height of each of the double doors: 89 x width 27 1/2 x depth at hinges 4 inches. The doors' hinges, push plates and lock levers are replacements. One door has a cracked center board which is slightly askew. Height of each of the eight-section panels 108 inches x width 36 inches. One has damage on its lower right corner. Each of the four three-section panels are 74 1/4 x 18 inches.Dimensions of detached linenfold panels: height 24 x width 15 3/4, with some size variation between the different detached panels. Some are split into fragments. Width of carved transom 61 inches x height 13 1/2 inches x depth 3 1/2 inches.
