An English delftware bowl, circa 1775-80
The interior inscribed in blue 'Success to ye Navy', below a scrolling border, the exterior rim with festoons, floral swags and diaper and a stylised flower sprig, 20cm diam
This bowl would appear to belong to a distinct group, attributed by Michael Archer to Thomas Morgan and Abigail Griffith of Lambeth. See Delftware (1997), pp.312-3, fig. F.50, for a bowl in the Victoria and Albert Museum inscribed 'Success to Trade', possibly by the same hand as the present lot.
