An English silk and metallic thread reticule, second half 18th century, embroidered with scrolls and flowers, with cord drawstring and silk tassels, 17cm high; together with a French embroidered and enamelled evening bag, mid 19th century, worked with threads, beads and sequins, with gilt-metal frame mounted with enamel clasp and paste-set plaque, the silk-lining with mirror, 19cm high; two cut-steel embroidered evening bags, each with tassels, one on Paisley fabric, the other red velvet; and two beaded bags (6)
The reticule - the red dyed silk is heavily worn in places and showing a gold colour. A pin prick worn hole to the middle on one side and a split to the edge of the silk at the base of the bag. Further small thread-bare areas. The wire embroidery is lifting in places and lacking to the middle of each side. The cord draw string is replaced. The tassels in good condition with wear consistent with age and use. The French bead and enamel bag - there is a noticeable difference in the brightness of the embroidery between the front and back. The front has faded. Inevitable losses and loose threads overall consistent with age and use. The paste-set border of the plaque is lacking some 'gems'. The interior mirror is heavily foxed. The two steel-cut embroidered bags in good condition. The velvet one with some loose threads to the underside. The oval beaded bag has some small losses to the embroidery. The back is worn. The second beaded bag has damage and losses to the bakelite frame and some losses to the beaded bag.
