This beautiful premium Madagascar fossil coral sphere was cut from a large, well fossilized coral. Fossil corals are a precious testimony to past life on our planet. These marine organisms, which were part of coral reefs, were buried under sediments during the Cretaceous era, about 65 million years ago.
Madagascar is an island extraordinarily rich in fossils, including coral fossils. These fossilized corals in Madagascar mainly belong to the Mahajanga geological formation, dating back to the Upper Cretaceous period, approximately 70-80 million years ago. The Mahajanga Formation is composed of several sedimentary rocks, including sandstones, limestones and marls, which contain remains of marine organisms, including corals, ammonites, belemnites and other molluscs.
The fossil coral ball we present to you is an incredibly rare and well-preserved example of these corals. The beauty and uniqueness of this sphere are evident at first glance, and the fact that it has been preserved so perfectly through so many millennia is truly astonishing. This piece is a testament to an ancient and wondrous era, and makes a valuable addition to any fossil or mineral collection.
