An Icon of Christ and the Theotokos with Beaded Shroud, in Kiot.
Eastern Europe, 19th/20th Century. A painted icon of the Dormition of the Theotokos, the Mother of God, with beaded and faux jewel shroud with what appear to be a few freshwater pearls, Christ standing beside her with the swaddled Soul of the Virgin, the garments and altar cloth of beaded and trimmed velvet, and an ornate foil liner in a rectangular shadowbox frame/kiot. 13 3/4" x 11 3/4" x 3 3/4". Condition: glass missing, replaced with plastic; the kiot with some cracks/old repairs, scattered wormholes, wear commensurate with age. Provenance: Private Collection, Northern California.
