Eastern Europe, 19th/20th Century. A painted icon of the Dormition of the Theotokos, the Mother of God, with beaded and faux jeweled shroud and appears to be one freshwater pearl, Christ standing beside her with the swaddled Soul of the Virgin, a red velvet embroidered altar curtain embellished with paper angels, and an ornate foil liner in a rectangular shadowbox frame/kiot. 12 1/4" x 11" x 3". Condition: glass missing, replaced with plastic; the kiot with wear commensurate with age. Provenance: Private Collection, Northern California.
