An Icon of Christ with Beaded Shroud, in Kiot.
Eastern Europe, 19th/20th Century. An icon of the Body of Christ (Epitaphios), painted on wood, with beaded and faux jeweled shroud embellished with what appear to be freshwater pearls, the altar cloths beaded, embroidered, and trimmed velvet, with an ornate foil liner in a rectangular shadowbox frame/kiot; 11" x 12 1/8" x 3". Condition: the glass missing, replaced by plastic; the kiot with a crack on one side, a few scattered wormholes, and wear commensurate with age. Provenance: Private Collection; Northern California.
