Eastern Europe, 19th/20th Century. A painted icon of the Dormition of Theotokos, the Mother of God, with beaded and faux jeweled shroud, Christ standing beside her with the swaddled Soul of the Virgin, surrounded by saints and angels, the garments and altar cloth of beaded and trimmed velvet, with an ornate foil liner in a rectangular shadowbox frame/kiot. 11 3/4" x 13 3/4" x 3 4/8". Condition: glass missing, replaced with plastic; scattered wormholes; the kiot with wear commensurate with age. Provenance: Private Collection, Northern California.
