An Indian carved and painted wood figure 印度繪木神像

Possibly from a festival cart, depicting a solidly built bearded figure in elaborate garb, holding a bow in one hand, mounted to a later acrylic stand
H: 38 in. (wood); 54 in. (with stand)

Provenance

Ambassador David Morgan Bane (1915-2004), likely acquired between 1961 and 1964, when Ambassador Bane served as consul general in Lahore, Pakistan, or prior to his retirement in 1975, where his last post was as Consul General in Mumbai, India
Thence by descent

Throughout his long and varied career, Ambassador Bane and his wife Patricia Bane delighted in learning about and experiencing the arts and cultures of the places they lived. Together they assembled an extensive collection of paintings, sculpture, and mixed media works, often acquired directly from the artists in each area. These personal relationships created a meaningful connection to the regions they served, as well as a beautifully curated collection that they displayed in their official diplomatic residences, and eventually their Florida home in retirement.
