Mecca is a is a 17th century technique that originated in Italy whereby an oil and resin lacquer is applied to a silvered surface to emulate gilding.
Condition Report: Structurally sound. General marks, nicks, scratches, cracking, rubbing and wear commensurate with age and use. Losses to surface varnish overall. With areas of losses to surface decoration revealing white gesso and bare wood in areas. Visible old woodworm and losses due to woodworm. Areas of infill and overpainted restorations. Marble top with scattered minor losses and fleabites.
