Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 B.C.E.) was a Roman statesman, lawyer, scholar and philosopher. His extensive writings include treatises on rhetoric, philosophy and politics, and he is considered one of Romes greatest orators and prose stylists. He was elected consul for the year 63 B.C.E., the same year he thwarted a conspiracy led by Lucius Sergius Catilina to overthrow the Roman Republic with the help of foreign armed forces.

The original model of this bust from 1st century C.E. is in the collection of the Capitoline Museum, Rome.
Condition Report: General marks, scratches, rubbing, wear and oxidation overall. A number of marks, scrapes and abrasions to top of head. Two holes to back of robe collar. A number of scattered chipped losses, particularly at extremities. With a 1in, chipped loss to lower left front edge of robe as visible in catalogue photos.
