Provenance: Sold The Collection of Gianni Versace, Sotheby s New York, 5-7 April 2001, lot 122.
Property from the Collection of Mary and Lou Silver, Indian Wells, California.

Footnote: The color variations in the plaza foreground, the foliage and the distant hills and delicate cloud formations suggest this was executed by a master mosaicist. Saint Peter’s Square is surrounded by the arms of Bernini’s colonnade, with fountains by Bernini and Maderno and an Egyptian obelisk formerly in the Circus of Nero (see Jeanette Hanisee Gabriel, Micromosaics: The Gilbert Collection, 2000, no.92, p. 160 and Jeanette Hanisee Gabriel, Micromosaics: Private Collections, 2016, no. 114, p.152).

Condition Report: Very fine tesserae. Generally good condition overall. A few minor areas of repair around center near obelisk. Examined under black light. With a few small areas of added fill in foreground. General light marks, and scratches, Overall in frame 8 x 9in.
