An Italian or French paper and bone mounted fan, last quarter 18th century, the central leaf painted with an allegory of love, within gilt cartouches surrounded by floral sprays, the central sticks carved with figures, the rocaille cast metal rivet inset with a gem on each side, presented in a giltwood and velvet lined case, 31cm high, 55cm wide

Please note: the images for lots 78 and 81 were transposed online in the lead up to the sale, they have since been updated and are correct in the printed catalogue. The leaf is quite creased and has five or six vertical tears including to the central section of the scene. Tape or film appears to have been applied to the rear in places, presumably to maintain and strengthen the structure. The colours are somewhat faded. Though the sticks are slightly darkened, the carving appears to be quite intact. Not inspected outside of the case, some loss to the gilding of the case.
