An Ottoman Qu'ran, Turkey, 18th century, Arabic manuscript on paper, 305ff. plus two fly-leaves, each folio with 15ll. of black naskh script, with gold roundel verse markers outlined in black, sura headings in white thuluth script on gold ground within illuminated cartouche, text within black and red-ruled gold frame, with gold and polychrome floral marginal medallions, opening bifolio with finely illuminated margins in gold and polychrome (now heavily rubbed), the colophon added from another Qur'an and pasted down on reverse of final folio of Qur'anic text, signed Hafiz Hasan al- Rashid and dated AH 1238, followed by prayers, in stamped and gilt Ottoman morocco binding with flap, text panel 11.8 x 5.3cm.; folio 16.4 x 10.2cm.
