An Unusual European Powder-Flask
Late 16th/Early 17th Century, Possibly Colonial
With forked body of polished natural staghorn, the front finely engraved with boar and stag hunting scenes in wooded landscapes, the hunters, one on horseback and carrying a falcon, in contemporary costume, one armed with a longarm and another playing bagpipes, the last two either side of a cartouche bearing a coat-of-arms, probably a merchant's mark, the back (old repair at the top on one side) with Leda and the Swan, iron mounts with cusped inner borders comprising basal mounts and top, the latter with conical nozzle with sprung tap and cut-off lever pierced with a hole (belt hook and side-rings missing)
