An ancient cosmetic alabastron from Etruria

An ancient cosmetic alabastron (said to be of oriental alabaster), found in Etruria, c. 5th Century BC. Although found in Etruria, the origin is likely Cypriot or possibly Egyptian. Carved from translucent alabaster, the long body slightly tapers at the shoulders with narrow short neck and wide flat rim. A vestigial lug handle at sides. Well-hollowed and made from attractive banded stone. H: 4 in (10.2 cm). Light surface deposits. A wonderful example!
