An assembled pair of George III / Victorian sterling silver salvers, one London 1815 by Richard Sibley I, the other London 1874 by Francis Boone Thomas Each of circular form with a ribbed ovolo edge and gadrooned rim, all raised upon three lion paw, acanthus scroll bracket feet. The fields edged with flat chased decoration of rocaille shell reserved with fish scale, baskets of fruit and floral sprigs all with C scrolls. Each engraved to the centre with a coat of arms of six quarters with a cadency mark for a sixth son, with a quartered coat of arms on an escutcheon of pretence each within a C scroll cartouche, above the motto Garde L’Honneur, all surmounted by a crest of upon a chapeau and lion statant guardant ducally crowned. Each fully marked to the reverse, the Victorian one stamped THOMAS 155 NEW BOND STREET, with Royal warrants. (2) Diameter – 20.8 cm / 8.15 inches Weight – 1083 grams / 34.82 ozt The crest is for Hanmer The arms are for Hanmer quartering Charlton (probably) quartering Powis (?) quartering Graham quartering Warner quartering Kenyon, impaling Forbes quartering another quartering another quartering Forbes. For William Hanmer (1792 – 1872) latterly of Bodnod Hall, Denbighshire, Wales, who married on the 7th February 1820 Euphemia Mary Forbes (1790-1871) daughter of John Forbes of Bodnod Hall (d.1821) He the sixth son of Sir Thomas Hanmer, 2nd Baronet (1747-1828) and Margaret Kenyon (d.1830). Thomas was the son of Sir Walden Hanmer, 1st Baronet (1717-1783) and Anne Vere Graham (1720-1778), daughter of Henry Vere Graham (1688-1737) and Catherine Warner (1695-1736). His nephew John Hanmer, 1st Baron Hanmer of Flinshire, Wales (1809-1881), the son of Thomas Hanmer (d.1818) Colonel of the Royal Flintshire militia and his wife Arabella Charlotte Dyot-Bucknall, had married Georgiana Chetwynd (d.1880), daughter of Sir George Chetwynd, 2nd Baronet (1783-1850) of Brocton Hall, on 3 September 1833 in Grendon, Warwickshire. He succeeded his grandfather, Sir Thomas Hanmer (1747-1828), as third baronet, he was M.P. in the liberal interest for Shrewsbury from 1832 till 1837, for Kingston-upon-Hull from 1841 till 1847, and for the Flint boroughs in six parliaments, from 1847 till 1872. In 1872 he was raised to the peerage as Baron Hanmer of Hanmer and Flint, both in the county of Flint. The title of Baron became extinct upon his death and the title of Baronet passed to his brother Sir Wyndham Edward Hanmer, 4th Bt (1810-1887).
