An attractive Coptic textile panel with crosses

An attractive Coptic textile panel with crosses, Egypt, c. 6th - 7th Century AD, in finely embroidered wool and featuring an intricate geometric design with three medallions containing crosses. The central rectangular pattern is bordered by lighter colored lines bordered on the outside by solid bands and a long tongued fringe. Nice deep brown and white which contrasts nicely with the lighter ground. About 10 1/4 x 4 1/2 in (26 x 11.4 cm). A stable and quite presentable example! Ex Iskander family collection, acquired prior to 1969; thence by descent.
