An early 19th century Derby porcelain mansion house dwarf, modelled dressed in opulent attire
An early 19th century Derby porcelain mansion house dwarf, modelled dressed in opulent attire holding a staff, with advertising to hat and shirt reverse, painted iron red mark to underside along with incised 'No227' 17cm some minir paint wear, crazing and minor staining. *These figures are thought to be based upon Chelsea's models of dwarfs after engravings by Caloto or, more likely are inspired by the dwarfs that stood outside of the Mansion House, London. This second theory seems more likely as the advertisements on their hats seem to be inline with the practice of attaching advertisements to the Mansion House figure's.
