An early 19th century French burr yew and 18 carat gold snuff box, Paris 1822-37 by Catherine-Adélaïde Duponnois (reg. 19 Sep 1822 – biff. 11 July 1837)
of rectangular form with rounded corners, with tortoiseshell stringing. The lid inset with an oval enamel portrait miniature on enamel of a young woman in a black dress with lace trim, wearing gold jewellery and with two white roses in her hair, after Nicolas Jacques (1780-1844). With gold lined interior, marked with Parisian third standard mark (750/1000) and makers marks to base and lid.
Length – 9.9 cm / 3.95 inches
Working from, 159 rue St-Martin Jean-Louis Leferre (reg. 1803/1811), son of Nicolas and his wife Catherine Charlotte Georges, had married Catherine Adélaïde Duponnois on 15 April 1788. He died in 1822 where upon she took over the business with her younger son Alexandre where they traded as Leferre Veuve et fils.
