An early 19th century Scottish silver matched three piece tea service.

An early 19th century Scottish silver matched three piece tea service, comprising teapot, twin-handled sucrier and a cream jug, each of compressed circular form with chased floral motifs and twin opposed scrolled cartouche, with acanthus leaf detail to handles and spout, a further flower finial to the domed, hinged lid of teapot, silver-gilt interior to the cream and sugar and each raised on four foliate scroll feet. Hallmarked James Howden & Co., Edinburgh 1837 with William IV Duty mark. Maximum length of teapot 11.75" (30cm), gross weight 51.89 ozt (1614 grams).

Condition Report:
- All pieces displaying general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.
- Some minor surface dints and bumps.
- Residues of polish.
- All the vacant cartouches also displaying some nicks and little dints and uneven surface. Possible engraving removal?
- Some surface wear and rubbing to areas of the decoration but overall in good condition.
- Cream jug with cracks along seam line, seen under the scrolled section at the top of the handle.
- Inset hinged lid of teapot appears in good working order and closes flush.
- Flower finial with likely repair to stem.
- Interior of teapot almost black with heavy staining.
- Hallmarks located to base of teapot and sugar bowl and below the lip on the cream jug. Some rubbing, mainly to cream jug, but all legible.
- Teapot with ivory insulators to handle.
- Teapot with the shield maker's mark, cream and sugar with maker's mark in horizontal punch. All with same date letter and Duty mark.
- Teapot lid with matching part hallmarks to reverse. Hallmarks to flower finial not visible.
