An early 20th century Estonian 56 Zolotnik (14 carat) gold cigarette case, Tallinn 1922-24 by Johannes Messner (active 1922-39)
Of oblong cylindrical form, the lid with flush hinge raised by a shaped thumbpiece set with a cabochon cut red paste. All over decorated with engraved Art Deco geometric decoration of interlocking octagons. Each side marked with maker’s mark, standard mark (used 1919-24) and stamped 585.
