An early Meissen porcelain teapot with Chinoiserie decor
Rounded teapot with spout issuing from a mascaron, and original domed lid. Decorated with Chinoiserie figures and indianische blumen in a reduced colour palette. Unmarked. H 12.3 cm.
Before 1723, decor Augsburg, attributed to Sabina Auffenwerth, c. 1730.
The attribution to the Augsburg based hausmaler Sabina Auffenwerth (1706 - 1782, married name Hosennestel), daughter of the Augsburg goldsmith and porcelain painter Johann Auffenwerth, derives from Ulrich Pietsch's catalogue of the Marouf collection. The decor was also discussed after Pazaurek's standard work, including in Barbara Beaucamp-Markowsky's catalogue of the Cologne Museum of Decorative Arts (MAKK), which houses an identical teapot (inv. no. E 2933 a,b).
