An early Victorian 9ct gold aquamarine brooch. Of openwork design, the circular and oval-shape aquamarine cluster, with foliate engraved interwoven surround. Estimated dimensions of principal aquamarine 9.4 by 8.4 by 3.5mms. Length 5.4cms. Weight 14.7gms.

Condition Report

Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear. Replacement fittings. Reverse of surround with signs of abrasion, small nick to the metal and file mark visible. Soft solder visible due to repair/alterations. Aquamarine are well matched, pale blue, with greenish hues, fairly well saturated, with good clarity and typical inclusions.

Aquamarine are in good condition with minor abrasions, few small nicks to the surfaces.

Electronically tests as 9ct gold. Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns.
