LOT 27

An early Victorian mahogany bracket timepiece

[ translate ]

An early Victorian mahogany bracket timepiece, unsigned, circa 1840, with eight-day timepiece movement and white painted Roman numeral dial, the case with pagoda top, applied mouldings, gilt brass mounted edged tablet, and plinth base, 50cm high

Condition Report:
The case with marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use, some old chip and losses to veneers, the interior of the case with some old signs of glue, this is mainly around the flame mahogany inset panel to the base. The lock to the rear door is missing, the door is secured by a later piece of tape - this is not ideal and requires some more secure method. The bezel is also not securing at present - the arm recedes into the case but the securing mechanism again appears to be lacking. The dial with many chips and losses to the paint, there are areas of restoration too. The clock comes with a key and pendulum, the key has an old break to the handle and has been reinforced by way of a metal plate. The clock is ticking at time of report after a quick wind, the movement sounds laboured and Dreweatts gives no guarantees if this is in full working order and makes no comments as to accuracy. Dreweatts recommends that the purchaser gets the clock appraised and probably cleaned and overhauled by a professional clock restorer. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition
