An early Victorian rosewood framed four fold room screen

An early Victorian rosewood framed four fold room screen in the manner of Jennens and Bettridge

the frame enclosing canvas panels, black ground to one side and dark green to the other, decorated in polychrome oils and gilt with with exotic birds, flower baskets, urns and trailing floral garlands among gilt Rococo chinoiserie scrolling foliage

height 190 cm., length 287cm.

Condition: A decorative piece. Frame sound but repolished Repairs with good restoration canvas panels to both sides. The black ground side appears period with surface cracking, craquelure, old repairs, stretcher marks and restoration. The green ground side appears fresher, brighter, cleaner and flatter. The canvas also has a different weave to the black ground side. It is possible that these panels are not period, however there are repairs and with restoration so they may be old replacements decorated in similar style been restored and heavily cleaned.
