An early Victorian stained softwood walking stick, mid 19th century
An early Victorian stained softwood walking stick, mid 19th century, the handle modelled as a hand holding a cornucopia, with gilt metal ferrule, 90cm high
This lot is to be sold without reserve
Condition Report:
The lot bears the usual minor marks, knocks, scuffs and abrasions overall consistent with age and use. The shaft has some scratches and abrasions particularly to the lowermost portion near the ferrule, as well as shallow vertical gashes further up. There is a horizontal line to the top of the stem though this is probably just the simulated cuff. There is a lacquer-type shiny residue to the knots in the wood, and there is a small restored chip to the cornucopia (one of the leaves). Dirt to the recesses of the grip which could do with a gentle clean. The cornucopia has an opening with the end of a bolt or pin, may have once held a finial though this is not certain. The gilding on the ferrule is slightly worn.
