An elaborate Japanese cast iron tetsubin
Meiji Period 1868-1912 or later
With Kanji characters to underside
The unusually ornate cast iron tea kettle in the form of a sylvan scene with a small figure standing at a Tori gate entrance to a dense forest, the lid a continuation of the treetops surmounted by perched cranes, with an ivy-form handle
13.75" H x 12" W x 10.5" D
Condition Report: Overall good condition with scattered scuffs, scratches, scuffs, and darkening/oxidation commensurate with age. A few chipped losses to the tree branch ends. The interior with rust and heavy oxidation, with subsequent evenly chipped losses to the iron. Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
