An exceptional historical acquisition for the discerning World War II or numismatic collector. This curated lot consists of six 1944 Allied Military Currency (AMC) banknotes, prepared by the United States and printed by the Forbes Lithograph Manufacturing Co. for Allied troops liberating France following the D-Day landings.Known affectionately as the "Flag Tickets" (Billet Drapeau), the reverses feature a striking French tricolor accompanied by France's timeless national motto: Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité. The Collection Highlight: The Elusive "X" Replacement Note. The undeniable centerpiece of this lot is the 5 Francs banknote, Serial No. 00132695. Look closely at the right-hand field to observe a bold, cleanly printed "X". In Allied Military Currency production, the "X" identifier designates a Replacement Note. These were printed in strictly limited quantities to replace regular sheets that suffered printing anomalies during manufacture. Because replacement notes represent a mere fraction of the total 1944 wartime press run, they are fiercely sought after by specialized paper money enthusiasts and command an elite premium over standard issues. This lot is sold a a six note lot.
