[ translate ]

dating: second half of the 19th Century provenance: Germany, Fit-in helmet with strong skull in one piece, with evident signs of hammering inside, with three low roped combs, interposed with outlined longitudinal fullers. Fine visor in German style, with eye-slots with strong cusped prominence, evident face with gleanings, with vertical ventilation holes. Visor, autonomously raisable, held on the beaver by a riveted counter-visor plate. Beaver with fit-in neckline that resumes roping at the skull base, and provided with snap button closure. Back with plume-holder and stamp at the skull base.Gorget with three plates, roped and twisted neckline, for fit-in with the helmet. Rounded breast-plate, with "W"-mark different from the one on the helmet, and with pauldron small plates and neckline with typical twisted roping, very thick and faced outward. A folding rest on the right side, with engraved and festooned base. Back-plate carved en suite with the breast and with the same stamp. Back loin-guard of single plate, the front one of three plates. Four-plated tassets, both with lower border with a thick roping. Complete brassards. Pauldrons with neck-collar with file-roped border, the right one with a special recess for the rest, elbow pieces with big wings. Inarticulated gauntlet with cuffs with a thick roping. Full-leg defense, with sabbatons that resume the drawing of the other parts, one featuring a mark already present on the breast-plate. Wings of knee-cops with twisted borders. The armour (circa 172 cm height) is finely carved as antique specimens, in the so called "Maximillian style": plates with longitudinal fullers, that define the outlined raisers, plates with festooned borders. Complete with leather strings, all the rivets in iron. Presented on a specific wooden mannequin complete with high pedestal. Provenances:- Kuppelmayr Collection, Germany.- Karsten Klingbeil Collection, Berlin. This remarkable armour, made in the 19th century taking up the much loved Maximilian style, originally comes from the very prestigious Kuppelmayr collection, is in fact documented, described and photographed, in the relative volume "Waffen-Sammlung Kuppelmayr" (No. 4, plate 2. 13), referred to as "Ganz canelirter Maximilianharnisch". The description also shows the stamp of the helmet and that of the breast-plate. As can be seen from the photos on the volume of the Kuppelmayr collection, apparently, over time, minimal changes have been made to the armor: some rivets have been added or repaired and the rest has been replaced with a more elaborate one, despite this, the armour is undoubtedly the same, in fact, you can see in the photos the same proportions, the same marks and above all the same signs of aging on the metals. Also unmistakable is the counter-visor plate mounted on the beaver of the helmet, visible in the relative photographic detail, in the same volume. A fascinating armour that has a very high working quality like the 16th-century specimens, made by a true master armourer.
