An extremely rare Ukrainian/Russian Tartar sabre, 17th centuryThe slender, single-edged blade with several offset fullers on both sides and a long, slightly widened, double-edged point. The florally engraved, broad, S-shaped, curved brass quillons with a long crosspiece, the lateral ends both in the shape of a fully sculptured dragon's head. The velvet covered wooden grip with a stylised, openwork lion's head pommel. Velvet covered wooden scabbard, the six bronze fittings chiselled on both sides with lions and floral décor in relief. Two lateral suspension loops. The velvet cover worn out in places on the grip and scabbard. Length 107 cm. Condition: II -
