An illuminated Qur’an, copied by Hafiz Mehmed al-Farid, student of Haji Hafiz Mehmed, Imam of the mosque of Muradiyya in Edirne, Turkey, Ottoman, dated 1236 AH/1820-21 AD

Arabic manuscript, 302 leaves plus 5 fly-leaves, 15 lines to the page, written in naskh in black ink, ruled in black and gold, the outer borders filled with gold scrolling flowers throughout, verses separated by varied gold florets, surah headings in white within gold cartouches decorated with polychrome foliate, gold and polychrome verse markes in the margins, f.2b and 3a with a polychrome and gold incipit frame, preceding double page and finispiece illumination possibly later, in brown leather binding with gilt-stamped and tooled decoration with scrolling borders, doublures decorated with large roses, with flap

14.4 by 9.8cm.

Condition Report:
In good condition, the margins are clean wiht only minor paper restoration, one small section of the illumiated bifolium consolidated on reverse, minor smudges and losses to the illumination also on the colophon page, the binding with minor splits affecting the flap and minor damages, as viewed. Please note: Condition 9 of the Conditions of Business for Buyers for this sale is not applicable to this lot.
