Persian and Arabic manuscript on paper in scroll form, text written in a cursive script in black ink within panels, names incorporated within illuminated roundels, inner margins ruled in blue, orange and gold, inner borders decorated with an intertwining floral motif in colours and gold, numerous seal impressions throughout the text, some tears and staining
3 m. 36 cm. x 20.5 cm.

The tree goes from the Prophet Muhammad back to the Prophet Adam and thereafter includes the pre-Islamic prophets and the ancestors of Muhammad. This is followed by a text explaining the descent of the 'Umari Khwajahs from the second caliph, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab. Thereafter is a table showing the descendants of the 'Umari Shaykh Abu'l-Hasan 'Ishqi, down to Sayyid Tash Khwajah 'Ishqi. After the latter's name, further descendants were added later in a different hand. A note at the end says that Sayyid Tash Khwajah had the genealogy copied, after an older copy became damaged.

The pomegranate-shaped seal impressions belong to a Muhammad Yusuf Qadiri, a descendant of 'Abd al-Qadir Gilani, and are dated AH 1265/AD 1848-49. The larger teardrop-shaped seal impression is worn, but appears to be a genealogy of 'Abd al-Qadir Gilani, going back to Imam 'Ali. The seal impression on the reverse has in the concentric circles in the centre the bismallah and Qur'an, sura LXI, Saff, verse 13 in part; the nada 'ali quatrain; sura II, al-Baqarah, verse 255 (Ayat al-Kursi). In the circles around the border are the shahadah and the names of Muhammad and the 12 Shi'i imams.
