Of cylindrical form, well painted on the exterior and interior in imitation of puddingstone. The base with an urn design incorporated into the faux puddingstone. Period: 18th/19th century. Height: 7.5 cm.
This brush pot is an example of the ability of the ceramic decorators in the 18th and 19th centuries to imitate a range of different materials using enamel colours on porcelain. Emperor Qianlong ordered a number of novel and exotic products in porcelain including puddingstone and faux bois and the trend continued into the 19th century.
