An impressive George IV silver twin-handled tureen and cover, the compressed circular form having an applied gadroon, shell and foliate rim above an armorial engraving to the main body, with further foliate embellishments to the applied twin handles and repeated to the four scrolling feet, the slightly domed cover with engraved motto and similarly decorated with a conforming gadroon border. Hallmarked Richard Sibley I, London 1829, the applied handle to cover is slightly later bearing a Victoria Duty mark and maker's mark for Richard Sibley II. Maximum length inclusive of handles measuring 15 inches (38 cm), weight 107 ozt (3356.2 grams). The armorial engraving is identified as the arms of BUCKLE or BUCKLAND of Somerset impaling DAWBENEY. The motto reads DUM SPIRO SPERO.
