An inscribed and dated lacquer-gilt bronze figure of Manjushri
Ming dynasty, fourth year of the Longqing period, corresponding to 1570 AD
明隆慶四年（1570年） 漆金銅文殊觀音菩薩

seated in dhyanasana on a lotus base supported by a lion, with the right hand raised, wearing long, flowing robes open at the chest to reveal a jewelled necklace, the face with a serene expression, the back of the base inscribed with a dedicatory inscription, dated to the fourth year of the Longqing period (1570 AD)
Height 31.5 cm, 12 3/8 in.

Condition Report:
Two casting flaws to the back of the figure (one hole ca. 1 cm wide), a crack across the fingers of the figure's left hand, whisp of flame on the right back leg and one foot of the stand missing, overall wear to the lacquer gilding, particularly to the back.
