An interesting early 19th century parcel-gilt mahogany elbow chair, reputedly once belonging to Marie Antoinette Murat (3 January 1793 – 19 January 1847), applied to verso with a plaque inscribed THIS CHAIR OF THE NAPOLEONIC PERIOD BELONGED TO PRINCESS MURAT AND WAS PRESENTED TO THE BOURNEMOUTH NATURAL SCIENCE SOCIETY BY FIELD MARSHAL LORD GRENFELL, G.C.B., G.C.M.G., F.S.A. BEING A PART OF HIS NAPOLEONIC COLLECTION. FEBRUARY 1920., 86.5cm high, 57cm wide, the seat 47cm wide and 37cm deep, c.1810
Marie Antoinette Murat was Princess of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen as the wife of Karl, Prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. She was by birth member of the House of Murat. Marie Antoinette was the niece of Joachim Murat, King of Naples from 1808 to 1815 and a brother-in-law of Napoleon Bonaparte, through marriage to Napoleon's youngest sister, Caroline Bonaparte.
