An oak alms box, dated 1737, the hinged rectangular top studded 'JUNE THE 28, 1737', the interior lined with sheets of pasted down handwriting signed ***** Collins and dated 1802, 27cm high, 51cm wide, 27cm deep Please note: The estimate should read £600-800 and not as printed in the catalogue. Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old chips and splits. In total there are five lock positions; four are lacking their hasps, three are locking their lock plate, one is lacking its escutcheon. Hinges appear original. Locks, escutcheons, and hasp are 18th century but vary from one another. No key present. Stuck down paper interior with various old tears, losses and discolourations. Some old later nails to mouldings. Old worm and fragmentary losses to underside. As commonly seeing in pieces of the period nails from the hinges and hasps poke through lid slightly in places.
