Mount Kennedy - named after the late president - was in 1965 the highest unclimbed mountain in North America. That year Robert Kennedy and Jim Whittaker - the first American to reach the top of Mount Everest - decided to reach the peak, where they planted the Kennedy banner, a copy of JFK's inauguration speech and one of the dead president's World War II medals.
