Churchill's lifelong passion for cigars was established when he as a young officer in 1895 was stationed i Cuba in order to observe the island's fight for independence from Spain. The rest of his life he smoked around 10 cigars a day, preferable Romeo y Julieta. At Chartwell, his country estate in Kent, he constantly kept a year's stock of his favoured brand - approx. 4,000 cigars!
